Thumping left-breaking reef wave in New South Wales, Australia, on the isolated eastern corner of Summercloud Bay, 95 miles due southwest of Sydney; known variously as Aussie Pipe, South Coast Pipe, and Wreck Bay; "as easy a tube as you'll find anywhere," according to Surfline. Short and thrilling, the wave at Black Rock offers a quick takeoff leading to a flawless barrel section, followed by a well-tapered shoulder with ample room for carving maneuvers. 

Australian pros Gary Green and Mark Occhilupo were standouts at the break in the 1980s -- the heyday of Black Rock's popularity in Australian surf videos and magazines. Photographer Chistopher Stroh remarked that "Seeing Occy at Black Rock in the flesh is like watching Lopez at Pipe or MP at Kirra -- they were made for one another." 

The best time for surf at Black Rock is from May to September when south swells arrive consistently and are groomed by prevailing northerly, offshore winds. Water temperatures range from the high 60s in the winter months, to the mid to upper 70s in summer. Daytime air temperatures average in the low 60s in winter, mid 70s in summer.

Black Rock lies within the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community, and has been surfed by the indigenous population since at least the 1960s; the first ever Australian Aboriginal contest was held at the break in 1993. Black Rock is set to join Australia's list of National Surfing Reserves in 2012.
