Surf-themed sidewalk memorial in Huntington Beach located at the intersection of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway, near the base of the municipal pier, patterned after the Hollywood Walk of Fame; founded in 1994 by Mike Abdelmuti, owner of nearby Jack's Surfboards. The annual Huntington Beach Surfing Walk of Fame induction ceremony takes place in August, in conjunction with the U.S. Open of Surfing, a world pro tour competition. The induction committee is made up of about 80 international surf industry notables who send in their choices for each of six categories: Surf Culture, Local Hero, Surf Pioneer, Surf Champion, Woman of the Year, and Honor Roll. Occasionally, more than one surfer will be picked for a given category. Hawaiian surfer Duke Kahanamoku was elected in 1994 as the Father of Modern Surfing. A coffee table book celebrating the Walk of Fame's 10th Anniversary was published in 2003.

While inductees are generally thought of as worthy of tribute, and the induction ceremony itself is loose and easygoing, the Walk of Fame has at times been criticized, most notably by 

 publisher Steve Pezman, who in 1999 described the nominee list as "incredibly random," and said the entire concept and its execution made him "cringe." (Pezman nonetheless accepted his 2002 induction.) Walk of Fame members have their names inscribed into a one-foot by one-foot piece of granite, along with their category, the year of induction, and the Walk of Fame logo. Honor Roll members are listed together on a single tile. (The Surfer's Hall of Fame, founded in 1996 and located in the nearby Huntington Surf and Sport shop, has a similar list of inductees.)
