Hi Matt - thanks very much for this, and apologies for the delay in getting back to you - ski & board mag I'm doing just doubled in size with three weeks to deadline - love it when that happens...

Totally understand about wanting to keep the same voice throughout - makes a lot of sense. For the purposes of my outdoors col, would it be OK to say something along the lines of "hey folks - the EOS is out - don't worry - there is an entry on Scotland - hasn't gone up online yet but it'll be there soon..."? Or something along those lines? As far as changes to the above entry go, I guess the big thing to add is the now-defunct O'Neill Coldwater Classic up at Thurso - a massive deal for Scotland while it was running - couple of stories about it here:

 Also, I'm not sure if Andy Bennetts would consider himself an Aberdeen surfer or an Edinburgh surfer - he was living in Edinburgh when by the time he decided to give surfing a try in Aberdeen. I interviewed him a couple of years back - you can make your own call based on what he says here:

Scotland's rugged and wind-lashed coastline can be divided into four surfing regions: 1) The western isles, primarily the Inner and Outer Hebrides, contain dozens of forlorn rocky points and untouched beaches, with chilly Atlantic waves rolling in from the north, west, or south. Many breaks here are not yet fully charted. 2) The mountainous north shore area features huge slabs of flat gray stone jutting into the ocean to form granite- bottom reefbreaks, some producing beautifully shaped waves. The inshore waters are criss crossed by huge seals and occasionally killer whales. Castle Reef, a hollow, right-breaking wave near the north shore town of Thurso, is Scotland's best-known wave. 3) The east coast, facing into the North Sea, is lined with a variety of beach-, reef-, and pointbreaks, all of which are best during winter. 4) The cliff-lined Orkney Islands, to the north, contain additional tracts of remote high-quality surf breaks, while the Shetlands—a cluster of about 100 mostly uninhabited islands located between Scotland and Norway— stand as one of Europe's final surfing frontiers. Water temperatures in Scotland range from the low 40s to the mid-50s; coastal air temperatures range from 10 to 80; wind, fog, rain, and drizzle are common. In spring, melting ice blocks will sometimes float down- river and drift into the surf zone. Summer surf is generally three foot or below; four- to six-foot waves are common from fall to spring, and winter can bring surf up to 12 foot or bigger. Around the summer solstice, north shore surfers can hit the water at twilight after the pubs close at 11 P.M. Aberdeen teenager Andy Bennetts became Scotland's first surfer in 1968, after he returned from Newquay, England, with a surfboard, and began riding it with some friends on the beaches near his home. The Scottish Surfing Federation, located in Ab- erdeen, was formed in 1973; the 1988 British Surfing Championships were held in Thurso. By 2003, Scotland was home to about 900 surfers and nearly a dozen surf shops, most located on the east coast. The Scottish surf is detailed in The Stormrider Guide Europe (1998) and Surf UK (2000), and is featured in the surf video Made in Britain (2001).
