Rugged surfer and gender-breaking surf executive from Santa Cruz, California; winner of the 1978 Hang Ten World Cup, and co-founder of Hotline USA Wetsuits. Scott was born (1957) in Lausanne, Switzerland, raised in Gilroy, California, began surfing at age eight, and moved with her family to Santa Cruz at 12. 

An Amateur Athletic Union short-distance swimming champion from age eight to 14, Scott also swam in the 1972 Olympic Trials, and was an All-American backstroker in 1977. Her victory in the 1978 World Cup, held in testing conditions at Hawaii's Sunset Beach, was worth $3,000—a record for women's surfing at the time. 

Scott was ranked fifth in the 1978 pro standings, and was named the world tour's rookie of the year; in 1981, the year she married Santa Cruz surfer Craig Rogers, she finished the season ranked #3. From 1977 to 1985, she ran the Brenda Scott Surf School in Santa Cruz, and in 1979 she and Japanese exporter Hiro Lida formed the Santa Cruz–based Hotline wetsuit company; Scott-Rogers was for years the surf industry's only woman CEO. 

Scott-Rogers's father is Dr. Robert Scott, president of the Western Surfing Association in the late '60s and early '70s, and inventor of Doc's Pro Plugs, used to prevent surfer's ear. Craig Rogers made news in 1987 after surviving a white shark attack while surfing just north of Santa Cruz.
