Glossy youth-oriented surf magazine, founded in 1999, published out of Carlsbad, California. 

 clearly marked out its demographic turf from the beginning, with regular use of hip-hop vernacular (staff members were introduced in the debut issue under the headline "Players . . . Y'all Better Recognize") and surf slang updates, including the reader-beloved "broisms" column ("'Instabro': Some dude who comes up and instantly thinks he's your bro"). The magazine also tweaked the standard letters to the editor column to acknowledge a younger, irony-raised audience, by answering seemingly all letters with a faux-sincere editorial voice laced with self-deprecation and mockery. 

also provided reviews for media platforms across the youth-oriented spectrum, including video games and indie pop music. Since 2002, the magazine's male-dominated readership has been treated to an annual 

 model search, featuring bikini-wrapped beach bunnies pouting into cameras for the chance at the "Miss Transworld Surf" crown.

 has otherwise hewn closely to the traditional American surf magazine editorial formula, with lots of photo features, extended contest coverage from California and Hawaii, and surf star interviews. The magazine was also an early-adopter of digital technology, both in terms of their post-production treatment of photos and in their flashy, video-driven website, one of surf media's first when it began attracting significant web traffic in the early 2000s.
