Strictly defined as a basic angled path across the wave face; for beginning surfers who've learned to catch an unbroken wave, the next step is to get into trim. For the connoisseur, the word "trim" describes a fast, smooth, almost Zen-like progression, ideally just ahead of the curl, with the surfer in near- motionless standing repose.
