Thick, warm, blunt-toed boot, originally from Australia, made of fleece-lined sheepskin with hard rubber soles. Ugg—thought to be short for "ugly"—is both a brand and a generic name. Uggs were invented in the late 1960s by cold-footed surfers in Torquay, Victoria; the shin-high boots were a fashion hit with California surfers in the early and mid- '80s, only to become a much-ridiculed surf fashion...
