Tall, broad-shouldered Australian regularfooter from Byron Bay, New South Wales; winner of the 2000 and 2003 World Longboard Championships; oldest son of 1966 world champion Nat Young. 

Beau Young was born (1974) in the Byron-area town of Grafton, raised in Sydney, and began surfing at age six. For three years, beginning at age 18, he was a struggling minor league shortboard pro. At 21 he tried a longboard, "and for the first time," he later said, was actually feeling what riding a wave was all about, instead of trying to tear the thing to bits." 

Young's longboard style soon became polished and flowing, but would always reflect his shortboard upbringing, and he often rode a 10-foot single-fin as if it were a 6' 6" tri-fin. 

In the 1998 World Longboard Championships, held in the Canary Islands, Young finished runner-up to Californian Joel Tudor. The 2000 championship event, held in Brazil, turned out to be a rematch between Tudor and Young, but this time the victory went to the Australian. Young placed third in the 2002 Championships. 

In 2003, Young again defeated Tudor in the championship finals held at Raglan, New Zealand. Beau and Nat Young are the first father-son team to hold longboard world titles; Nat had come out of a long semiretirement to win longboard championships in 1986, 1988, 1989, and 1990. 

Beau Young has been featured in a number of surf videos, including Cruise Control (1998), Longboard Magic (2001), and Made in Britain (2001). SInce 2005, Young has been a touring musician. His debut album 

(2005) rose to #1 on the Australian independent music charts.
